Keith Urban Donates to Australian Flood Relief Efforts
Last summer, flash floods raged through Middle Tennessee, a place Keith Urban and his wife, Nicole Kidman, now call home, and they were some of the first to pitch in to assist flood relief efforts. In January, their home country -- Queensland, Australia -- was affected by La Niña, causing abnormal drenchings that set off record flooding. In Brisbane, more than 25,000 homes and 5,000 businesses were inundated when the two major river systems burst their banks, and caused billions of dollars of damage across the nation.
During the last show of his tour Down Under, Keith, wearing a sports jersey from his old high school Caboolture State High, pledged a "hefty sum" to Queensland's disaster relief. (The notoriously humble entertainer is keeping the exact amount mum.) Keith told the crowd he followed the coverage of the summer's devastating storms on television in the States, and just like Middle Tennessee, he was impressed by the strength of the spirit and the determination of the people of Queensland.
Having a little bit of free time off during the trek, Keith invited his band and tour mates Lady Antebellum to the Sutton Forest farm he and Nicole bought in 2008, where they road motorcycles and dirt bikes. The next night, Keith pointed out how funny it was to see Lady A's Charles Kelley, who stands 6'6" tall, riding a small bike. So, we're wondering exactly where he put his legs -- over the handlebars?
Keith, who is climbing the country charts with his current single 'Without You,' launches the North American leg of his Get Closer World tour on June 16 in Biloxi, Miss.
