Singer-songwriter Joshua Davis has a new song to share: He's premiering the track, "Nowhere Without You," exclusively for readers of The Boot. Press play below to listen.

A "deeply personal" song, "Nowhere Without You" is, Davis tells The Boot, a reminiscence on the early part of the artist's relationship with his wife. "Little vignettes of lovely but tenuous moments between us" are interspersed throughout the lyrics, "overshadowed by me spinning my wheels and not knowing how to move ahead."

"These memories / Pictures on my shelf / Keep me company since you left me by myself," Davis sings in the chorus of "Nowhere Without You," over an airy melody. "I'm walking the floor / I don't know what to do / Wearin' down in circles, goin' nowhere without you."

"Nowhere Without You" will appear on Davis' forthcoming new album, The Way Back Home, "an album that tells the story of difficult lessons learned, paths chosen and a destination that continues to evolve," as the singer describes it. The project is due out on Oct. 13 and was produced by Los Lobos' Steve Berlin; it's Davis' first studio album since his appearance on The Voice Season 8 in 2015.

A native of Detroit, Mich., Davis has released three solo albums, as well as five records with the band Steppin' in It and a record of jazz standards with another group. His time on The Voice began with an unexpected phone call from the show's producers, who requested that he audition; initially, Davis said no, but his wife helped convince him to do it. Recruited for Adam Levine's team, Davis placed third to Season 8 runner-up Meghan Linsey and winner Sawyer Fredericks.
