Jason Aldean Has an Ear for Singles
Jason Aldean could probably have had a successful career in the music business if he hadn't become an artist himself. The Georgia native was picking singles and radio hits long before he actually made it into the recording studio.
"Even when I was younger, I had an ear for songs," Jason tells the Toledo Blade. "I'd buy somebody's record and pick the singles off it before they were even singles. I've always had an ear for those things. It's about finding songs for what I do."
Picking hits such as 'Hicktown,' 'Why' and 'Big Green Tractor' has led Jason to the stages he's playing today. "That's the coolest part of the night for me, the first 20 seconds," Jason reveals. "When you see everyone for the first time, and they see you, it's pretty intense."
It's the reaction from the crowd that Jason counts on in order to progress. "I've had success with singles from the first one, but the way my career has gone, it's allowed me to build my fan base the right way," Jason says. "It's the old word of mouth. Someone comes out to the show, then they tell someone else. That's been our deal. I've always felt that if I could get someone to the show, I have a good shot at making a fan out of them."
Inspired by the Alabama and Garth Brooks concerts he attended as a teen, Jason worked hard to make his own concerts the best they can be, and it's paying off: he's nominated for Entertainer of the Year at the upcoming ACM Awards next month.
"We have a lot of cool things going on right now," Jason admits. "I've always felt like our fans have been around and noticed what we're doing, but the industry wasn't taking notice. To get the ACM nod, that was pretty cool. I don't want to think about the success too much, because I'll start over thinking it. I don't know what we're doing to deserve it, but it's cool."
