Jason Aldean: People’s Choice Awards Performance Promises ‘Country-Rock Flair’
Jason Aldean is getting ready to play some of the largest crowds of his career, when his Night Train tour kicks off in March, but that's not what makes him nervous. The 35-year-old says it's performances on live TV, like when he takes the stage for the People's Choice Awards Wednesday night (Jan. 9), that cause him to break out in a cold sweat.
"I'm not used to playing a lot of black-tie events," Jason tells Parade magazine."I'm going to get onstage and have fun and bring a country-rock flair to the show. It's my first time being nominated, and anything that comes from the fans is extra special."
The Georgia native weathered a much-publicized scandal last year, when he was caught getting a little too close with former "American Idol" contestant Brittany Kerr. While that incident could have derailed the career of other superstars, Jason credits his fans for supporting him through a particularly difficult time.
"I want them to stick with me when things are going great and when they're not going so great," he says. "The fact that they've done that is a testament to how amazing country music fans are. That makes me proud."
Clearly, his fans still have his back. The married father of two is also nominated for a People's Choice award for Favorite Country Artist, which the singer admits is a bit mind-boggling.
"It is a little overwhelming on a lot of different levels," Jason told The Boot and other reporters at a recent media event. "From a career standpoint, it's hard to wrap your head around the idea that people are that into what you're doing. It's like my Mom says all the time, 'It's just you. I don't know why they're so excited about you.' That's kind of how I look at it. I sing for a living. I'm glad people dig what I do that much, but a lot of times I don't think I really get it. It's something I'm still getting used to on a daily basis."
Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Blake Shelton and Tim McGraw are also among the nominees. The People's Choice Awards will air live from Los Angeles Wednesday (Jan. 9) at 9:00 PM on CBS.
