Watch Jason Aldean Take on John Mellencamp’s ‘Pink Houses’ During Chicago Bar Gig
Jason Aldean had the audience rocking on Sunday night (April 29) in Chicago, Ill., from the tiny stage at Joe's Bar. During a charity show, in addition to all of his No. 1 hits and crowd favorites, Aldean treated the audience to a rowdy cover of John Mellencamp's "Pink Houses." Aldean played to a sold-out crowd in a "Back to the Bar" fundraising effort that brought in more than $30,000 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The excitement in the room was palpable as the recently crowned ACM Entertainer of the Year worked the crowd in a venue that he hasn't visited in over 10 years.
“It’s been quite a while since we played a bar,” Aldean said (quote via Taste of Country) to the amped-up audience when he returned to play the classic rock tune as an encore. “This has always been one of our go-to jams.”
Aldean gave Mellencamp's hit song his trademark country-rock twang, even through a little hicccup, when he forgot the lyrics briefly.
"Alright, somebody may need to help me. It's been so long since I played this song ... I think I got it -- I got it! Y'all just gotta give me a minute!" Aldean said from the stage while the audience cheered him on.
Aldean's new album, Rearview Town, recently hit number one on the Billboard 200. It's first country album of 2018 to make it to the top of that chart.
