Chris Cornell's musical influence extended well beyond the rock genre. A country collaborator on more than one occasion, Cornell took the stage with Jason Aldean during the 2014 CMT Artists of the Year ceremony to perform Aldean's hit "Just Gettin' Started."

Readers can press play above to watch Aldean and Cornell's performance during that event. Aldean was one of CMT's Artist of the Year honorees that year, and Cornell acts as one of Aldean's guitarists and offers harmony vocals during the song.

"I only got to work with Chris once, but he was a true rock star," Aldean tells Rolling Stone. "He was a bada-- onstage and a class act offstage."

Released as a single in 2014, "Just Gettin' Started" hit No. 1 on the country charts the following year.

On Wednesday night (May 17), Cornell died following a sold-out Soundgarden concert at Detroit, Mich.'s Fox Theater. According to the New York Times, a rep for the singer-songwriter -- who also fronted Audioslave and Temple of the Dog and released four solo albums -- called his death "sudden and unexpected," and his family said that they will be "working closely with the medical examiner to determine” a cause of death. A spokesman for the Detroit Police Department reports that officers responded to the MGM Grand casino around midnight following a call about an apparent suicide. The victim was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor, with a band around his neck, and pronounced dead on the scene.

"Sad to hear about the passing of Chris Cornell this morning," Aldean tweeted on Thursday (May 18). "He was a class act and a true rockstar."
