During Sunday night's (April 7) 2019 ACM Awards ceremony, Jason Aldean will receive one of the Academy of Country Music's highest honors: the Dick Clark Artist of the Decade Award. Even though the country superstar knows he'll be onstage accepting at least one trophy that night, he says he won't have a speech prepared.

"I'm not a guy that sits down and writes speeches or does any of that kind of stuff. I think the best speeches come from the heart and what's on your mind at the time," Aldean shared during a press conference ahead of the 2019 ACM Awards (quote via PopCulture.com). "I don't know what I'm going to say yet but I've got a lot of people to thank, I do know that."

Still, Aldean's reluctance to prep any thoughts doesn't mean he's any less excited about the honor. "It's a big honor for me. I'm just thrilled to be the one that's receiving that award," he says.

Only five other artists have ever received the Artist of the Decade Award: Marty Robbins in 1969, Loretta Lynn in 1979, Alabama in 1988, Garth Brooks in 1998 and George Strait in 2008. The award was officially renamed to honor Dick Clark's tenure as an ACM Awards early host and longtime producer after his death in 2012.

"It's been really humbling for me," Aldean says of being the sixth artist on that list. "You look back at the last 10 years or so, and I realized that we have had a great run, but ... I didn't even know it was something that was on the radar at this point that was coming up. It came out of the blue for me a little bit."

Knowing the ACM Artist of the Decade trophy is coming his way, however, has given Aldean an opportunity to reflect, which is something he doesn't always take the time to do.

"I know it's been a great run, but I don't think I sometimes stop and really take it all in," Aldean admits. "It's one of those awards for me that kind of made me do that a little bit -- stop and sort of look at it and realize how much we have accomplished."

Although Aldean is the reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year, having won that category three years in a row, he admits that going into the show a winner is "kind of a new thing." He's not sure, he says, if that makes the night easier or more stressful.

"Typically you ... just go up and play your song and do your thing, and then you wait for your category, and whatever happens, happens," Aldean shares. "I want to go out and have fun and just enjoy the night."

Not only will Aldean receive the prestigious Artist of the Decade honor, but he will also perform at the 2019 ACM Awards, which is set to take place at the MGM Grand Garden and Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. Hosted by Reba McEntire, the awards show will air live on CBS beginning at 8PM ET.
