Jamie Lynn Spears: ‘We Are Truly Blessed’ as Daughter Maddie Leaves Hospital
Following her ATV accident on Sunday (Feb. 5), Jamie Lynn Spears' daughter Maddie is out of the hospital and headed home.
On Friday afternoon (Feb. 10), Spears and her husband, Jamie Watson, shared photos of their family loaded into a helicopter at Children's Hospital in New Orleans, La., ready to go home. The hospital tells People that 8-year-old Maddie is "breathing well and interacting with loved ones," and that "[d]octors say she is on the way to a full recovery.”
"Thanks to the amazing firsts responders and medical teams ... we are headed home with our baby girl as she continues to recover," Spears writes on Instagram. "Above all else, we are so thankful for each and every prayer, because we know that is what truly made the difference.
"Thank you again to everyone," Spears adds. "We are truly blessed."
While riding an ATV on her family’s property on Sunday, Maddie was trying to avoid running over a drainage ditch and overcorrected her course, running the vehicle into a pond. Spears and Watson (Maddie's stepfather), along with other family members, were about 100 yards away when Maddie crashed; they tried to rescue the young girl, but, officials say, she was trapped by the ATV’s seatbelt and safety netting.
On Tuesday afternoon, according to a statement from a Spears family representative, Maddie regained consciousness. The statement reported that the young girl was “awake and talking,” and off her ventilator; although she was still receiving oxygen and being monitored, the statement added, “it appears that she has not suffered any neurological consequences from the accident.”
Throughout the week, as Maddie continued to recover, both Watson and Spears' sister, pop star Britney Spears, called for prayers for the young girl on social media. Following Maddie's release from the hospital, Spears wrote on Instagram that she is "so grateful" that her niece is going home.
"It's truly a miracle. Our prayers were heard, and they were answered!" Spears adds. "Thank you so much for all of your love and support this week. My family appreciates it more than you will ever know."
Jamie Lynn Spears shares custody of Maddie with the girl’s father, Casey Aldridge. Spears became pregnant with Maddie in 2007, at the age of 16; the singer and Aldridge, then girlfriend and boyfriend, got engaged in the spring of 2008, and Maddie was born in June of that year. However, the couple called off their engagement in the spring of 2009, and their relationship officially ended in early 2010. Spears married Watson in 2014.
Spears released her most recent single, “Sleepover,” in June of 2016. She has yet to comment on Maddie’s accident herself, but on Monday afternoon (Feb. 6), her sister, pop star Britney Spears used Facebook to ask her fans for prayers for her niece.
