Fans have been anxiously awaiting the release of new music from Jamey Johnson, and now the artist says the wait is finally over.

Johnson released 'Living for a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran’ in 2012, but his last album of new songs was 2010's 'The Guitar Song.' Fans have been screaming for new music, and Johnson is delivering in the form of a Christmas EP, out now digitally, and more new music coming in early 2015.

"To answer the question that the fans have been asking: 'When are we gonna put out new music?' Now. We're gonna start putting it out now, starting with this Christmas EP," Johnson tells Rolling Stone Country. "And then you can look for another release from me after the start of the year. And you can look for more releases from me as the year progresses."

'The Christmas Song' contains a few classic holiday tunes as well as 'South Alabam Christmas,' the first new music from Johnson since 'The Guitar Song.' But Johnson has plenty of other new music in the works with his new independent label Big Gassed Records, which enables him to write, produce and release music when he decides to do it.

"We don't have to go through the same waiting process that other artists might have to, stand in line and wait to get their music out," he says. "We'll just kind of fall in line where we fit for retail -- and if we don't fit there, we don't fit there. It's not a problem to me."

The new label also means that fans won't have to wait so long for releases in the future.

"What I'm looking to do is supply my music to my fans. That way we don't have to keep 'em waiting four years for another album," Johnson says. "We don't have to figure out where we can slide in in the line. We just do it."

'The Christmas Song' is available for download on iTunes.
