George Strait Named Living Legend in 2017 Golden Boot Awards
George Strait is the "King of Country," and to The Boot's readers -- and, let's be honest, just about everyone else -- he's a legend, too. Strait has been named the winner of the 2017 Golden Boot Awards Living Legend honor.
With 50-some percent of the votes in the 2017 Golden Boot Awards Living Legend poll, Strait beat out a host of other iconic country acts -- Glen Campbell, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Randy Travis, Reba McEntire and more -- to earn the Living Legend title in 2017. Travis placed second in the poll, while Alan Jackson -- named Living Legend in 2015 and 2016 -- placed third.
Recently named Texas' 2017 State Musician, Strait doesn't need much of an introduction or career synopsis, but here are the basics: He's been a Country Music Hall of Fame member since 2006, has sold more than 100 million records worldwide and has scored 60 No. 1 hits over the years. A three-time CMA Entertainer of the Year winner, Strait has 33 albums that have gone platinum or multi-platinum to his name.
Currently, Strait is performing a series of concerts in Las Vegas. He began the residency, at Sin City's T-Mobile Arena, in 2016, after officially retiring from touring in 2014. A list of upcoming dates can be found on Strait's website.
