Nashville’s Jason Owen to Co-Executive Produce New Scripted Country TV Drama
Nashville's Jason Owen, the president and CEO of Sandbox Entertainment (whose clients include Kacey Musgraves, Faith Hill and many more) has signed on as co-executive producer of an upcoming new scripted country music television drama. Other executive producers working on the show include Melissa London Hilfers and Gail Berman.
The as-yet-unamed fictional television show follows the lives of a multi-generational first family of country music, according to a show announcement. That family, the Romans, split their time between Austin, Texas and Nashville, Tenn. Although their legacy is built on honesty, and their family is a household name in the "three chords and the truth" genre, the Romans' careers are based on a fundamental lie. When family secrets begin to come dangerously close to seeing the light of day, more lies, betrayal and even murder transpire as the Romans work to keep their secrets hidden.
According to Deadline, the drama's script was written by Hilfers and is inspired by one of the genre's most famous families. The Fox network is developing the series, along with Sidecar Content Accelerator. No information about when the show will air, or who will star in it, has yet been released.
Countless fans have already discovered that the world of country music is ripe for gripping television stories. The television drama Nashville, which followed the lives of a group of country performers, ran from 2012 to 2018 and won a legion of fans throughout its tenure on the air. In the spring of 2019, it was announced that Nashville was being adapted into a Broadway musical.
