Singer-songwriter Don Williams has won many awards in his career spanning more than 45 years, and now the music legend will soon add another trophy to his extensive collection. The 72-year-old will receive the prestigious ASCAP Golden Note Award at the songwriting organization's upcoming annual awards ceremony, honoring his outstanding contributions to country music.

The married father of two, whose lengthy list of credits includes songs recorded by Alison Krauss, Johnny Cash, Lefty Frizzell, Kenny Rogers, Alan Jackson and Josh Turner, just to name a few, has also enjoyed a stellar solo career, boasting more than 50 Top 40 singles, including 17 No. 1 hits.

ASCAP President and Chairman Paul Williams says the Country Music Hall of Fame member is the perfect recipient for this year's honor. "Don is one of country music's most successful performers of the past four decades," he notes (quote via MusicRow.com). "His knack for finding songs that speak directly to people's hearts has earned him millions of fans worldwide. He is a true international country music star, and we are very proud to honor him with ASCAP's Golden Note Award in recognition of his extraordinary career."

Other tunesmiths who have received the Golden Note Award include Garth Brooks, Lindsey Buckingham, Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, Tom Petty and Sean Combs.

The invitation-only event will be held November 6 at Nashville's Gaylord Opryland Hotel.

Don continues to perform all over the globe, including planning on returning to the United Kingdom and Ireland in 2012. See his tour schedule here.
