Dierks Bentley Recruits Famous Friends ‘Up on the Ridge’

Dierks Bentley will release a unique new album, 'Up on the Ridge,' June 8 with special guests ranging from Miranda Lambert, Alison Krauss and Jamey Johnson to Chris Thile and the Punch Brothers and Kris Kristofferson. The collection is a nod to his musical roots, acknowledging the part bluegrass has played in his musical upbringing. Dierks hopes his fans will like this detour off into some heritage-inspired tunes.

"I've always had strong ties to the bluegrass community and always wanted to make a record that focused a little more heavily on those relationships," Dierks tells The Boot. "It's kind of morphed to be really unique ... a bluegrass, acoustic hybrid. It's got drums, and bass, and a little bit of electric guitar, but it's really just a lot more amped-up on the mandolin, the banjo, the fiddle and the dobro. It's Americana, bluegrass [and] country."

Dierks puts an Americana/bluegrass/country spin on a rock 'n roll classic on the album. He and bluegrass legend Del McCoury, along with the Punch Brothers, cover U2's 'Pride (In the Name of Love).' Dierks also tackles a Bob Dylan favorite, 'Senor (Tales of Yankee Power),' with help from the Punch Brothers and Chris Thile.

The album's first single and title track, which hits radio next week, was inspired by time Dierks spent on a plot of land he owns just south of Nashville. See the project's full track listing, along with the names of all his special guests on the album, below.
