Watch Cole Swindell Join Dierks Bentley at Legends for Randy Travis, Joe Diffie Covers
Dierks Bentley played a surprise show at Nashville's Legends Corner on Monday night (Nov. 14) -- but Bentley wasn't the only country star onstage at the Lower Broadway honky-tonk. Shortly into his set, Bentley invited good friend and 2017 tour special guest Cole Swindell to join him for two '90s country covers.
Together, Swindell and Bentley covered Joe Diffie's "John Deere Green" and Randy Travis' "Forever and Ever, Amen." Readers can press play on the video above to watch. Throughout the night, Bentley also covered Merle Haggard, Hank Williams and more, in addition to performing a few of his own hits.
“You spend your whole life hoping to get on a bus and get on the road," Bentley mused onstage (quote via the Tennessean), "and then you think, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool to go back and play a show on Lower Broadway?'"
Come January, Swindell and Jon Pardi will be hitting the road with Bentley, on Bentley's 2017 What the Hell World Tour. Bentley and Swindell's history goes back a number of years, to when Swindell was selling merch for Luke Bryan.
"I thought his name was Coal, like a piece of rock …,” Bentley remembers. “He’s told me so many times that I’m the reason he moved to town to write songs — it’s enough that I almost believe him, he’s said it so many times."
Bentley and company’s 2017 trek is set to begin on Jan. 19; they'll play Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on Jan. 21. A list of all of Bentley’s upcoming shows is available on his website.
