Dierks Bentley and Brandi Carlile teamed up at Sunday night's (April 7) 2019 ACM Awards ceremony. Together, the two performed "Travelin' Light," which they recorded together for Bentley's 2018 album The Mountain.

The Americana-meets-classic country song shined when the two played it live, backed by a band with pedal steel and banjo. Carlile wore an especially fly rhinestone jacket. Her angelic voice added a nice touch to his gruff sound. It was the most rootsy performance of the night while still polished enough to make it worthy of being the final duet of the night.

Bentley enlisted Carlile for the studio version of "Travelin' Light" after seeing her perform at the 2017 Telluride Bluegrass Festival. "I sent her the song via email, which I'd never done before," he recalls, "and she sent it back three days later."

Bentley's The Mountain album was nominated for Album of the Year at the 2019 ACM Awards. He was also up for trophies in three other categories, including Male Artist of the Year.

Carlile, meanwhile, was not nominated at the show, but the Americana artist has seen her profile rise since her star-making performance of her song "The Joke" during the 2019 Grammy Awards. Carlile took home three trophies at the January show, and was nominated in six categories in total -- the most-nominated woman at the event.
