Wednesday (May 13) was Darius Rucker's birthday, but the singer decided it was better to give gifts than receive them on his big day.

Rucker visited Today to announce that he will be giving away new homes to 11 veterans while on his Southern Style Tour this summer -- and the first one was given to Specialist Daniel Branham live on TV.

"Daniel's an American hero. The things he did when he was deployed, he's just an amazing guy," Rucker gushes, before turning his attention to Branham. "And he's from my neck of the woods, so I wanted to bring you some tickets to the show, for you and your family."

They were then joined on stage by Ret. Lt. General Leroy Sisco from the Military Warriors Support Foundation, who was on set to deliver even more good news for Branham.

"They want to give you a home in Mt. Pleasant, [S.C.]," Rucker reveals. "You're going to be my neighbor."

Hosts Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford then officially handed over the key to Branham's new house as a photo of it flashed on the screen behind them.

Rucker's Southern Style Tour kicks off Thursday (May 14) in Holmdel, N.J. The generous singer will also host his Darius Rucker and Friends benefit concert on June 8 at the Wildhorse Saloon, with proceeds benefiting the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

“Growing up, my mother instilled in me the importance of giving back. Whether it was mowing a neighbor’s yard or helping during the loss of a loved one, it’s important on so many levels,” Rucker explains of his involvement in the worthwhile cause. “Just like St. Jude, I’ve been given so much from the music community over the years, so this is one of the ways I know how to say thanks. Not only is this one of my favorite shows all year, but it’s a great platform to remind so many of the incredible work done by St. Jude.”

A list of all of Rucker's upcoming concerts is available on his website.
