Cody Johnson, Warner Music Nashville Begin Partnership
Cody Johnson and his record label, CoJo Music, have found a new home. The Texas singer-songwriter has signed a partnership with Warner Music Nashville.
Since 2006, Johnson has been making a name for himself in country music with a traditional sound that stays true to the roots of the genre while still bringing a fresh perspective to the industry. An independent artist since the very beginning, Johnson self-released his sixth studio album, Gotta Be Me, in 2016; the project boasts big names such as Randy Rogers and the Brothers Osborne in its writing credits, reached No. 2 on the country charts and led to appearances at festivals all over the country.
Johnson is a native of Sebastapol, Texas. A former bull-rider and prison worker, he made history this spring by becoming the first independent act to sell out a show at NRG Stadium during RodeoHouston.
"If I don't play music, I don't live. I play every show like my life depends on it, and in the rodeo world, [the] bull-riding world, your life does," Johnson tells The Boot of the parallels between the career of a rider and that of an independent artist. "[Independent artists have to] scrounge, claw and bite your way to where we are now, [and] that's the way rodeo is: lots of miles, lots of broken hearts and broken bones and the door shut in your face. You just have to keep saying, 'No, I am going to keep doing it.'"
Johnson is represented by Durango Artist Management, Red 11 Music and HBPR. He will now be supported by the Warner Music Nashville radio team.
More information about Johnson can be found on his official website. His albums are available for purchase on iTunes.
