Clint Black Readying New Album, ‘On Purpose’

Clint Black is readying his 12th studio release, On Purpose. The new record will be his first all-new studio album in a decade. His last release, Drinkin' Songs and Other Logic, came in 2005.

On Purpose contains 14 tracks and was self-produced and recorded at Black's Nashville studio. It features ballads, upbeat songs, groove-tinged tracks and more -- including a duet with his wife, Lisa Hartman Black, titled "You Still Get to Me." The song is Black's third time joining vocals with his wife.

The project's ballads include “Only One Way to Live,” “Stay Gone,” “Breathing Air” and “Last Day,” while “Beer” is a lively and clever song. “Calling It News” features Black giving a wry, topical statement, and "The Trouble" is full of Australian slang. The album's title, On Purpose, comes from its second track, "Better and Worse."

“It represents my attitude towards life, in that it’s never easy to ‘go your own way,’ but the rewards are greater when you follow your heart," Black says. "I know that’s what my fans expect from me, and I hope that they hear that in the songs on this album."

The artist says that he's proud of the new project, and even though he's already sold more than 20 million albums worldwide and had almost two dozen No. 1 hits, Black pushed hard in the creation of On Purpose.

“Musically, On Purpose is right where I want to be,” adds Black. “I pushed myself hard for this album, doing more of the guitar work, even playing slide guitar for the first time.”

On Purpose is set to street on Sept. 25. It will be Black's first album for his new label, Thirty Tigers.
