After announcing in 2017 that he had plans to create a new musical based on his 1995 holiday album, Looking for Christmas, country icon Clint Black has announced in a press release that the musical will hit the stage in November of 2018. The project will debut on November 20 at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, Calif.

"I'm so excited to announce that I'm bringing my album, Looking for Christmas, to life this holiday season in musical form," Black says. "As a huge fan of Christmas-time, I'm always thinking of our military families and what they face during the holidays. I'm especially happy to highlight their story with Looking for Christmas."

The original story centers around Staff Sergeant Mike Randolf and his family as they re-adjust to life together at home following Randolf's return from Afghanistan. As his youngest  daughter embarks on her own quest to discover the true meaning of Christmas, Randolf makes peace with his experience of combat.

The musical will draw inspiration from many of the songs included on Black's eponymous holiday album, but will also feature a few new tunes written by Black especially for the story.

Black dreamt up the idea for the musical adaptation of his Christmas album with the help of James D. Sasser, who also co-wrote the book. The project is directed by Kent Nicholson and produced by 959 Productions, and its run will span through December 16, 2018 at the Old Globe Theatre.

Black recently celebrated the 29th anniversary of the release of his debut album, Killin' Time. That album launched one of the most successful careers of his generation, which has netted Black a total of 22 No. 1 hits, nearly two dozen major awards and nominations and even a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
