Chris Stapleton's father has passed away. The singer has been forced to cancel an upcoming show after getting the tragic news.

Stapleton's web team posted the announcement to Twitter on Monday (Oct. 7).

Stapleton is an acclaimed singer-songwriter with multiple No. 1 hits to his credit, including songs by Kenny Chesney, George Strait and Darius Rucker. He has also written for artists as diverse as Adele and Tim McGraw. From 2008-2010 he was the lead singer and guitarist of the bluegrass band the SteelDrivers, earning three Grammy nominations and an IBMA award.

Stapleton released his first solo single, 'What Are You Listening To?,' in July.
