Texas singer-songwriter Carson McHone is premiering her new song "Good Time Daddy Blues" exclusively for readers of The Boot. Press play above to listen to the bluesy tune about a no-good, cheating ex-flame.

Paired with a hard-driving melody and Lone Star State-influenced country sensibility, McHone's smoky vocals shine on "Good Time Daddy Blues." The song was written about the kind of romance that lingers, regardless of how terrible it makes you feel. But instead of a syrupy lament penned for a lover who doesn't deserve it, McHone channels the burnt-out anger that comes at the end of one of those dysfunctional relationships.

""Good Time Daddy Blues" is about a love you can’t kick, no matter how bad it treats you," she tells The Boot. "The verses are condemning, the chorus pleading. Both the anger and desperation kick this song into gear."

"Good Time Daddy Blues" will appear on McHone's forthcoming album, Carousel. Long a beloved artist in her home base of Austin, McHone has been wowing audiences at major festivals including AmericanaFest and SXSW with her intensely emotive vocals and stunning songwriting. She's also earned a major endorsement from Texas country legend Ray Wylie Hubbard, who says McHone "writes like her life depends on it."

Carousel is set for release on Oct. 26. Fans can learn more about McHone and her new music at CarsonMcHoneMusic.com.
