At just 14 years old, Carrie Underwood was already a singing star around her hometown of Checotah, Okla. Even though she was still about six years away from auditioning for "American Idol," which, of course, she would eventually win, it was obvious to those who had the chance to see and hear her perform that she possessed something special, not only with her voice but with the poised professionalism she displayed.

Perhaps that's one reason Nashville's Capitol Records had already offered her a deal in 1996, at just 13 years old. Although a management shift at the label meant the deal would be scrapped, things eventually worked out just fine for the global superstar who is currently on her Blown Away tour. But here's proof she had already been blowing fans away with her soaring vocals: It's vintage footage of 14-year-old Carrie performing a song called "You Walked All Over Me" at the Arkansas-Oklahoma State Fair Youth Talent Contest in Sept. 1997.
