It should be no surprise that Carly Pearce was thrilled to learn she is up for New Artist of the Year at the 2019 CMA Awards. Anyone who's watched the Instagram video she posted shortly thereafter, which shows the singer dancing around her house so excitedly that she burned the eggs she was cooking, can attest to her excitement.

Pearce says that a big reason why she was so surprised by her nomination was that she was convinced another rising female artist had it in the bag. "To be honest with you, Ashley McBryde was announcing the nominations, and I was like, 'Well, there's the girl that's nominated!'" the singer recalls. "And I was so happy for her, but I didn't watch. I was like, 'I love Ashley, but there's no way that they're gonna have two females.'"

Being so convinced that McBryde would be the only woman nominated made the surprise even sweeter, Pearce goes on to say: "That made it so much better because I was genuinely, completely shocked. And burned our eggs. We ended up eating them, though," she shares.

Country music has a history of holding only a few slots for female artists, pitting women against each other in competition for those coveted places. While the industry still has a long way to go toward gender equality, Pearce says that she and McBryde celebrated the moment as a victory not only for themselves as nominees, but for all women in country music.

"Ashley and I texted that day and were like, 'This is awesome.' Because neither of us thought there would be another girl in there," she recalls. "So it was just a really powerful moment for females, and for she and I to be able to have that exchange and be such fans of each other."

The 2019 CMA Awards are set for Nov. 13 at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena; the ceremony will be broadcast live on ABC beginning at 8PM ET. Carrie Underwood is returning to co-host the event for the 12th consecutive year, with Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton as her guest co-hosts.

The 2019 CMA Awards will find the CMA celebrating country music's legendary female figures, according to a press release, but details as to those plans have yet to be revealed. Performers, presenters and other details of the big night are also still to be announced.
