Brad Paisley will be joining Blake Shelton on The Voice, as a mentor for Shelton's team during Season 9 of the TV singing competition.

On July 31, Us Weekly reported that the show's four new mentors include Selena Gomez for Gwen Stefani's team, John Fogerty for Adam Levine's team, Missy Elliott for Pharrell Williams' team and Paisley for Shelton's team. People exclusively confirmed the news on Aug. 3

The addition of 42-year-old Paisley to The Voice is not only exciting for contestants, it's also a boon for Shelton, whose divorce from Miranda Lambert was announced less than two weeks ago.

“Brad was a good friend to Blake, and it was great for Blake to have him there — especially considering everything Blake is going through,” a source reveals to Us Weekly.

Shelton tells People, "He's really been good to me, and so the fact that I was able to get him here and and advise my team made perfect sense to me because he was actually a mentor for me."

With Shelton and Paisley working together during The Voice's new season, there may be another superstar in the making. Fans know that Shelton has a competitive streak -- especially when going head-to-head with Levine -- so it will be interesting to see Shelton and Paisley interact onscreen as they seek to out-coach the others in a quest to discover the show's top voice.

Shelton's winning acts on the singing competition include Jermaine Paul, Cassadee Pope, Danielle Bradbery and Craig Wayne Boyd. Most recently, Season 8 runner-up Meghan Linsey was a member of Team Blake.

Paisley joins a long list of other music standouts who have mentored Shelton's team over the years. They include Lambert, CherMeghan Trainor, the Band Perry and many others.

The "River Bank" singer is currently on his 2015 Crushin' It World Tour, featuring Mickey Guyton and Justin Moore as opening acts. He's also set to headline the 2015 All for the Hall benefit concert in New York City alongside Carrie Underwood, Vince Gill and Emmylou Harris.

NBC’s The Voice returns to television on Sept. 21 at 8PM ET.
