Brad Paisley recently admitted that in spite of all his success, including more than seven million albums sold and 14 No. 1 singles, he has some unfinished financial business -- with his father.

Brad fondly recalls how his career began at the age of 12. Referring to his father as his "first roadie,' Brad tells PEOPLE magazine. "I'd sing five songs, tell jokes and be $55 richer. My dad never asked for a cut! Not even gas money. I still owe him money!"

Now, married (to actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley) and the proud papa of two children of his own, Brad has even more respect for his own father. "I relate to him in a different way," Brad says.
Brad's father, Doug Paisley, gives himself some of the credit for the father his son has become. "He's a great dad and a good husband," he says. "I feel I've been that ... I gave up [weekend] military service because it gave me time with him."

Brad probably also owes his dad some of the credit for his seven CMA nominations, including Entertainer of the Year. He returns again on Nov. 11 to co-host the televised ceremony, along with Female Vocalist nominee, Carrie Underwood.
