Blake Shelton’s Father Dead After Lengthy Illness
Our condolences go out to Blake Shelton, whose father, Dick Shelton, passed away last night (Jan. 18). "Mr. Shelton, who was in declining health this past year, was surrounded by loved ones in Oklahoma upon his passing," reads a statement from the singer's publicist.
Blake dedicated his American Country Award win last month to his dad, who had been taken to the hospital with pneumonia that day. The country superstar was also visibly emotional as he sang his poignant 'God Gave Me You' on the show that night.
"I appreciate your understanding during this difficult time and thank you for all your prayers. Your support means the world to me. I love you guys," says Blake in a message to fans today.

The very next weekend, Blake is up for three trophies at the Grammy Awards, including Country Album of the Year for 'Red River Blue.'
