Blake Shelton & Kenny Loggins to Get ‘Footloose’ at CMA Awards
Blake Shelton, who can be heard singing a duet with wife Miranda Lambert on her brand-new CD, will have a different duet partner at the upcoming CMA Music Awards. The country superstar has invited Kenny Loggins to perform 'Footloose' with him as the ceremony's opening song.
Blake had one vision in mind for the remake of the tune, which Kenny co-wrote and took to the top of the pop charts in 1984.
"There are two ways to bring back a song: one is to try to make it your own, and in this instance, you have to remove yourself from it and step into the role of what's best for the movie and that particular scene," he tells The Boot. There's really only one way to approach it when you think of it that way: a fun, uptempo, catchy version just like Kenny Loggins did."
The 2011 film's soundtrack, which reached the Top 5 on the country chart and No. 14 on the pop chart, includes songs by Big & Rich, Hunter Hayes, Cee Lo Green, Whitney Duncan and Ella Mae Bowen. The movie, which starred Julianne Hough and Kenny Wormald, came in No. 2 at the box office the first week after its Oct. 14 release date.
Kenny's appearance at the CMA Awards won't be his first trip to Nashville. The 63-year-old is part of a new trio, Blue Sky Riders, that includes famed Nashville songwriters Gary Burr and Georgia Middleman.
Other artists performing during the CMA ceremony include Jason Aldean, Keith Urban, Sara Evans, Lady Antebellum, Martina McBride, Sugarland, Lionel Richie, as well as a performance by the evening's co-hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood.
The 45th Annual CMA Awards air live from Nashville, Nov. 9 at 8:00 PM ET on ABC.
