When Blake Shelton was approached about contributing a song to the new 'Footloose' soundtrack, he didn't hesitate in letting the powers that be know he was only interested in recording the iconic title cut.

"They originally asked me to do another song but I told them it was 'Footloose' or nothing," Blake tells The Boot. "That song was the only one I was interested in doing. When I asked to do it, I knew it would be polarizing, and I was right. I mean, I'm that guy, I always have been. Who better to do that song and piss people off than me?"

And who better to show people a good time than Blake Shelton, who turns a drive-in movie into a rowdy party in his video for 'Footloose.' The reigning CMA Male Vocalist of the Year shares with The Boot this behind-the-scenes look at the making of the video. Watch the exclusive video below.

"The video is freakin' cool," Blake says. "We did it in Lewisburg (Tenn.) and we brought a bunch of kids into this drive-in theater. We had everybody dancing and having fun."

Blake is thrilled with the song and video's success, and he's not letting critics rain on his parade. He's perfectly comfortable with being a bit polarizing.

"People are either saying, 'Oh my God, I hate everything that encompasses this,' or they're saying, 'Oh my God, this is really awesome. I'm so excited they're doing a remake of the movie and I like this version of the song.' Everything I've read is one or the other, no one says that it's just OK."

When he went in to record 'Footloose,' Blake was told he could do it any way he wanted, even if it meant changing it up. "I didn't want to do that," he explains. "It's 'Footloose' and I wanted to keep it as close to the original as possible, because it worked the first time around and I didn't want to monkey around with it. It's from the major scene in the movie, so I said let's just pay homage to Kenny Loggins' version but make it sound new again. With me singing it is definitely more country, because I sound country no matter what. Outside of that, I just wanted it to be perfect for the movie and the scene it's used in."

'Footloose' is now in theaters, and it's country star-studded soundtrack is in stores. The movie is centered around city kid Ren McCormack, portrayed by Kenny Wormald (Kevin Bacon in the 1984 original), who moves to a small town where rock music and dancing have been banned because of an auto accident that killed some of the town's teens a few years earlier. Ren decides that it's time the new crowd of teenagers have the chance to dance and sing, and brings about a revolution in the town. Julianne Hough plays Ariel Moore, Ren's love interest and dance partner. Dennis Quaid is her preacher father and Andie McDowell plays her mom.
