2019 Newport Folk Festival: Stream Sets From Lukas Nelson, Yola + More
Don't sweat it if a weekend trip to Rhode Island for the 2019 Newport Folk Festival wasn't in the cards this year. Sets by select indie rock influencers and Americana luminaries will be broadcast live all weekend (July 26-28).
A full rundown of the festival sets that will be broadcast this year, as well as the stream itself, is available below. The 2019 Newport Folk Festival livestream is part of streaming service TuneIn's years of partnerships with various multi-day festivals and events, including the annual springtime country music gathering Stagecoach, which takes place in Indio, Calif.
"It's no easy task to capture the vibe and energy of Newport Folk and broadcast it to our fans outside the festival grounds," says Jay Sweet, executive producer of the Newport Festivals Foundation, in a press release. "We're grateful to have a partner who gets 'it' and shares a common goal of getting more good music into more eardrums."
The Newport Folk Festival dates back to July 1959, although the current incarnation of the festival began in 1985. It played a key role in the folk revival of the 1960s that brought Maybelle Carter and bluegrass legends a younger audience. Johnny Cash bridged the gap between commercial country music and the folk revival when he made his Newport debut in 1964.
