Tim McGraw has released his latest single, 'Shotgun Rider,' which he debuted on the 'Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon' in February.

The song comes off of McGraw's upcoming album, 'Sundown Heaven Town,' which is set for release on Sept. 16.

"This is one of those songs that really paints a picture and sets a mood," the singer tells Rolling Stone Country. "You look over and see the person that you love next to you sitting in the front seat, and you think, 'How good do I have it? Life is perfect.' There is a certain warmth to this song and several others like it that really establish the tone for the whole album."

McGraw has been performing the song, along with other new tunes on the upcoming album, at shows and during public appearances over the past few months. He says that releasing an album isn't the same as it used to be, when songs and album details were kept under wraps until release.

"It's just the nature of where we are with music now," he says. "Everybody buys singles more than they do albums, and everybody wants to know what's going on in an artist's career, what they're doing next. It's a way to lead up to an album and give them a glimpse of what's coming."

McGraw will celebrate the release of the album with an American Express Unstaged show at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom. The concert begins at 9 PM ET and will be streamed live at amexunstaged.com.
