Taylor Swift was the recipient of the first-ever Dick Clark Award for Excellence at the 2014 American Music Awards.

Legendary singer Diana Ross introduced the award before a video tribute to Swift -- an "artist, innovator and icon," according to the narration -- played. Swift then took the stage to accept the honor.

"I'm so blown away to have just received an award from Diana Ross," Swift said, adding that "Dick Clark was a visionary."

The 'Shake It Off' singer also took a moment to thank her fans.

"I love getting to know you, I love talking to you online, and I love having a glimpse into your life, and I'm so unbelievably happy that you want to have a glimpse into mine," Swift said. "Thank you so much."

Earlier in the evening, Swift performed her new single, 'Blank Space.'
