In January of 2008, Miranda Lambert released "Gunpowder & Lead" as the third single from her second major-label album, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Co-written by Lambert and Heather Little, the song became Lambert's first Top 10 hit on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart: After debuting on the chart just outside of the Top 50 (No. 51) in mid-January, "Gunpowder & Lead" peaked at No. 7 in mid-August.

"Gunpowder & Lead" was certified platinum in December of 2010 and has since gone double platinum. Below, Lambert tells The Boot about the tune.

Some people are like, "Ugh! I can't believe she's singing that!" And it's meant to be taken lighthearted in some aspects, but [this song is] also very real to me ... When I was younger, my parents took in abused women and their kids, so I saw firsthand what damage it can do to a family to be in an abusive relationship.
