Garth Brooks appeared in all four hours of 'Today' on Thursday (Jan. 8), and during one of the segments, some happy news was revealed: 'Man Against Machine,' his first studio album in 13 years, has been certified platinum.

"I never thought I'd see another one of these," Brooks admits. The photo above shows the 'Friends in Low Places' hitmaker standing in awe in front of the award, with Savannah Guthrie, Matt Lauer and lots of fans applauding the singer.

This feat is especially commendable since Brooks hasn't been in the country music scene since 2001; he took time away from his career to raise his kids and be a full-time dad, a decision about which he has no regrets.

"The greatest gift I've ever received was the time off to raise our kids," he says. "But I've got to tell you ... the greatest next gift I've received was the chance to do it all again. We're having a great time."

Brooks has been on a massive world tour trek with wife Trisha Yearwood, breaking records wherever he goes, selling out concerts, entertaining masses of fans and enjoying the ride back up to the top in country music. And this platinum certification confirms it: Brooks is back.
