Today’s Country Stars Take Center Stage at ‘American Currents’ Exhibit [PICTURES]

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s newest exhibit, American Currents (The Music of 2016), pairs newer artists and songwriters — Kelsea Ballerini, William Michael Morgan, RaeLynn, Florida Georgia Line, Maren Morris and Jon Pardi, for example — with icons such as Randy Travis, Tammy Wynette and Reba McEntire. The exhibit opens Friday (March 17) and will run through March of 2018.

“To bear a proper testament to music history, we must bear testament to the present, because history is born in the now,” explains Kyle Young, CEO of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. “This is the reason for our new exhibition, American Currents.”

American Currents exhibit items include clothing worn by Jason Aldean for the cover of his 2016 album, They Don’t Know; the handwritten lyrics to “Keeper of the Flame,” co-written by Natalie Hemby and Miranda Lambert for Lambert’s 2016 album The Weight of These Wings; and clothing worn by FGL’s Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley during their “May We All” music video. Other pieces in the exhibit are the gown that Dolly Parton wore to accept the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2016 CMA Awards and a pair of boots and a shirt worn by Morgan, among others. Readers can see photos from inside the exhibit in the gallery below.

To help open American Currents, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum hosted a reception at the Hall of Fame. A number of the artists featured in the exhibit were on hand for the special event; flip through the photo gallery above to read their thoughts on being included in the new exhibit.
