Charlie Daniels to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

Charlie Daniels‘ legendary career spans 50 years and includes several platinum-selling albums, a Grammy award and an induction into the Grand Ole Opry. The T.J. Martell Foundation will add another accolade to the long list, presenting Charlie with its Lifetime Entertainment Achievement Award at a special awards ceremony in New York on October 27.

Charlie will be joined during the ceremony by pop icon Kenny Loggins, who will receive the Lifetime Artistic Achievement Award. In addition to being honored, Charlie will join Enrique Iglesias, Colbie Cailat and Jaron and the Long Road to Love in providing the evening’s entertainment. Jaron will help pay tribute to the late heavy metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio, who lost his battle with cancer in May.

Charlie gave his fans a scare when he suffered a mild stroke earlier this year, but true to form, the tenacious singer — who boasts that he has never missed one of his concerts — recovered in record time and managed to continue his busy touring schedule, as well as release a new album, ‘Land That I Love,’ which showcases his pride in America.

“We’ve done so many patriotic songs through the years that it’s a no-brainer to do an album of patriotic tunes. Right now, with everything that’s going on, I think people need a little encouragement,” Charlie told The Boot. “They need to say, ‘Hey we’re still the United States of America. We’re still the greatest country on the face of the earth. This country is worth fighting for. It’s worth working for, worth voting for. It’s worth being a good citizen. So, here’s some encouraging music for you. Here’s how I feel about it. Here’s my America!’

Charlie, who will turn 74 the day after the T.J. Martell ceremony, will once again host the Charlie Daniels Band & Friends Concert to benefit Christmas 4 Kids. The show, which will be held at the Ryman Auditorium November 22, will include performances by Jake Owen, Sawyer Brown and Montgomery Gentry. The busy entertainer also continues to perform concerts all across the country. Find his tour schedule here.
