Rumors were swirling a few months ago that Carrie Underwood would be performing at the 2015 Super Bowl, and while she won't be the halftime show star, the songstress will still play a part at the big game.

Underwood, who has sung Sunday Night Football's 'Waiting All Day for Sunday Night' theme since the beginning of the 2013-2014 NFL season, will star in a special 'Waiting All Day for a Super Bowl Fight' opening theme for NBC's Super Bowl XLIX broadcast.

"I'm so honored to again be a part of the Super Bowl," says Underwood, who sang the National Anthem at 2010's game. "I can't wait to watch the game!"

The special opening will feature new and different elements from Underwood's usual SNF opening, including lyrics featuring the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks and a special set design.

Underwood is second in a line of country stars who have sung the famous 'Waiting All Day for Sunday Night' theme, which is musically based on the Joan Jett classic ‘I Hate Myself for Loving You.' Faith Hill sang the song from the 2007-2008 season, when she took over from pop singer Pink, through the 2012-2013 season.

Super Bowl XLIX takes place in Glendale, Ariz., on Feb. 1. NBC's coverage begins at noon ET.
