Brett Eldredge has no plans of fading away from the spotlight anytime soon. The 28-year-old says that he hopes to stick around for decades, just like one of his musical heroes.

“I want to be like Willie Nelson when I’m 80 and still hopping on that tour bus and heading to the next town and singing, ’cause that’s all I love to do,” Eldredge tells ABC Radio.

Eldredge is hitting the road with Darius Rucker, as an opening act on Rucker's Southern Style Tour, in May, and he'll be taking plenty of notes.

“To see people like Darius still out there plugging along, having fun with it every single day and still out making great music, that’s awesome," Eldredge adds.

Perhaps Eldredge will be able to join Nelson on the road one day as well, since the octogenarian doesn't show any signs of slowing down. Nelson is joining Alison Krauss for a short co-headlining tour this summer, and he also keeps a busy performance schedule on his own. A list of upcoming shows is available on Nelson's website.

If Rucker's tour is anything like his new record, chances are good that Eldredge will learn plenty from his tour boss about having a good time while on the road.

“We wanted to have a little more fun with this record … I think it’s going to end up a little more fun,” Rucker says. “But just like I always do, you always write some songs about relationships and family because they always come up, and it’s always some good song that you can’t not record.”

Eldredge is also performing several solo shows before he begins touring with Rucker. All of his upcoming shows can be found on his website.
