Brad Paisley ‘Southern Comfort Zone’ Is First, Experimental Taste of Upcoming Album

Brad Paisley experiments with his sound arguably more than ever before on his brand-new single, "Southern Comfort Zone," released to country radio Thursday (Sept. 20). It's no-doubt a country song, but the singer-songwriter merges steel guitar with a more rockin' groove than he's ever done before, and even includes spoken word by legendary radio personality and Opry announcer Eddie Stubbs, along with harmonies by the Brentwood Baptist Church choir.

Written by Brad with Chris DuBois and Kelley Lovelace, "Southern Comfort Zone" is the first single from the Grammy winner's yet-to-be-titled tenth studio album due in stores April 9, 2013. "I love Nashville and I love the South, and I love living in that area," he tells Nashville's Tennessean newspaper of the inspiration behind the lyrics. "It's very comfortable, and we all feel so at home there. It's not until you see the world that you learn to appreciate that. I'm encouraging people to take a look around. There's some great places around the world that will expand your mind and also make you love this Southern comfort zone."

Brad promises his upcoming album will be his most organic yet, as what happens in the studio is what you'll hear on the recorded versions of the song -- no editing allowed. He used his own road band on the record, instead of studio musicians, and says he's had more fun making this project than any of its predecessors.

"It's a big experiment. My rule for this record is to leave our comfort zone as musicians and songwriters and production-wise, themes and everything, and think outside the box," Brad explains. "And every song should, at some moment, do to you what my dog does when I say a command he doesn't understand: His head goes sideways. And every song should have that moment in a good way."
