David Nail’s Wife Is a Good Sport About Sexy ‘Let it Rain’ Video

We know that David Nail's latest single, 'Let it Rain,' was inspired by the final scene of the film, 'The Last Kiss,' and that it's completely fictitious, but we still wonder what his wife, Catherine, thought of the tune.

"'Let it Rain' was a song that was written right when we first started dating," David tells The Boot. "She was more leery of her friends and family's reaction of 'what's he doing? What's he thinking?'"

A cheating song is one thing, but the video is another. "That was nowhere near as uncomfortable as the subject of 'we're going to do a video and there's going to be a half-naked woman in it, and it's not going to be you,'" David reveals. "She was a pro, though. I told her, 'If you hadn't been so eager to be the girl in 'Red Light,' then maybe you could be in this one.' It would be a little weird for me to be cheating on my wife with my wife, though. [laughs]"

Although, that might have played well with David's vision for the video. "I really wanted to do something that would give a little shock factor," he admits. "We wanted to do something that automatically got people's attention. When you listen to that song, there are probably several different views that people go to, and I wanted it to not to be the obvious story line."

While Catherine wasn't going to be in the clip, David didn't plan on appearing either. "At first, I was not planning on being in the video in any way, shape or form," he remembers. "Then the director Stephen Shepherd came to me and said, 'Man, if you're going to portray a jerk, to really get the significance, you gotta power up and do it yourself.'"

That, of course, led to the 'uncomfortable' talk. "I went home that night and laid out the parameters to my wife, and she sat there very quietly," he explains. "I told her, 'We're going to have some stipulations.' I had planned on not having any sort of interaction with the girl, out of respect for my wife, and I felt that made it intriguing. Here's this guy who's so disgusted by what he did that he doesn't even want to look at her, see her, smell her or have any contact whatsoever. It's that awkward three minutes where she's trying to gather her stuff and get out the door without making him feel any worse."

The moment that gives the video the most realness is arguably the shot of a ring and wallet on the nightstand. "That was actually my ring and my wallet," David laughs. "I credit Stephen for being a great director and seeing my vision. I wanted to make it as awful as possible. There's only one way to really tell a story like that and that's to tell it in the most brutal way, and we accomplished that."
