Miranda Lambert brought home the trophy for Female Video of the Year at the 2022 CMT Music Awards on Monday night (April 11). She won for "If I Was a Cowboy," accepting the award from country royalty Martina McBride.

"Martina McBride just handed me a buckle, y'all," Lambert joked. "I love that."

The leading single off of Palomino, a new album out at the end of April, Lambert's "If I Was a Cowboy" finds the singer flipping some of the Wild West's gendered stereotypes. The singer slips convincingly into her role as a cowboy in this clip, which was filmed in small-town Texas.

Lambert brought the spirit of breaking barriers into her acceptance speech, spotlighting the video's director, Trey Fanjoy — who is one of the most awarded female music video directors in country music history — and pointing out that the women of country are "really starting to kick some ass."

"We are all cowboys and we're gonna continue to be," Lambert continued, triumphantly.

Other contenders for the award included Brandi Carlile's "Right on Time," Gabby Barrett's "Footprints on the Moon," Kacey Musgraves' "Justified," Maren Morris' "Circles Around This Town," Mickey Guyton's "Remember Her Name" and Tenille Arts' "Back Then, Right Now."

This was Lambert's sixth career Female Video of the Year win and first since 2014's "Automatic." This also marks her first CMT Award win since 2015, when she and Carrie Underwood won Collaborative Video of the Year for "Somethin' Bad."

The 2022 CMT Music Awards aired live from Nashville on CBS and Paramount+. 2022 marks the first year the awards show has aired on a major network.
