The Worst Movies of 2024 So Far, According to Letterboxd
2024 has been a great year for movies so far. Just not, like, every single movie.
That’s how cinema works; sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose. And sometimes you lose really really really badly. For lack of a better term, we’re taking stock of the losers today — the worst movies of the year according to the accumulated ratings of millions of users on the website Letterboxd.
If you don’t use Letterboxd, you should; it’s a great way to keep track of what you watch, to see what movies your friends are watching, and to get a sense of the broader reactions to big movies, both good and bad. If you click the site’s “Films” tab, you can then sort their gigantic database in myriad ways — including by year of release. After you do that, you can sort the results according to a film’s average rating amongst users, either from highest to lowest or lowest to highest. Do the latter for 2024, and you’ll see the 25 movies below, which are listed in descending order from the almost watchable to the most punishing.
Technically, Letterboxd employs a 0 to five star rating system, but the site doesn’t technically allow you to give something zero stars; a half-star is therefore the worst possible rating any film can get. Which means the scores below — which are all below two stars and in some cases shockingly close to one star, are actually kind of impressive. To get this many people to agree on a film’s absolute repugnance is almost impossible. But these 25 titles pulled it off.
