Why Dustin Lynch Refuses to Get a New Truck, Despite Success of His Song With Jelly Roll, ‘Chevrolet’
Dustin Lynch and Jelly Roll's collab "Chevrolet" is climbing up the country charts, and it's slated to make it to the top if it stays on track.
This song borrows the melody from Dobie Gray's song "Drift Away," but has a whole new set of lyrics that set it apart from anything else on the radio right now. It's quite country.
"When she said / Gimme a dirt road / The windows down / Wanna get lost on / the edge of town / In your Chevrolet," they sing. The song leans heavily into the visual of driving around town in a Chevrolet truck.
But don't expect to see Lynch rolling around in a shiny new one, even if the song goes No. 1.
In an exclusive one-on-one sit-down with Lynch on Taste of Country Nights, Lynch dished on what he drives on a daily basis.
With a blockbuster hit called "Chevrolet," you'd assume he'd be at the dealership the next day buying an all-bells-and-whistles 2025 model. But not Lynch — he likes his old truck just fine.
"Mine's paid off. I've got a 2020 Chevy that's paid off," he says.
"Everybody's like, 'You get a new truck out of this song?' I'm like, 'Mine's paid off, I don't think I want a new truck,'" the frugal star explains.
Floored at the fact that Lynch hasn't gotten a brand new truck out of the deal, ToCN host Evan Paul dove deeper, and the country singer's explanation makes sense, really.
"I trust it. You gotta think how little I get to drive, ya know, I'm never home," Lynch reasons. "My 2020 is probably only a year old for me."
Seems as if the "Small Town Boy" singer is just that: A small town boy who's is happy with what he's got. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right?
Evan Paul is the host of Taste of Country Nights, a syndicated radio show heard on more than 130 country radio stations nationwide, every night from 7PM to midnight.
