Who Was Dylan Carter From The Voice?
Dylan Carter earned a four-chair turn during the Blind Auditions of Season 24 of The Voice in 2023. He sang a rendition of Whitney Houston's "I Look To You" in honor of his mother, who had died the year before.
Carter's rendition was so powerful, it brought coach Reba McEntire to tears.
"I saw you get so emotionally involved," she explained to him as she acknowledged that the performance had gotten her misty-eyed. "And that's when you know you've got a great song and a great singer, when it touches your heart."
Carter chose to compete as part of Team Reba and made it to the Battle Rounds, but was eliminated after being matched up against fellow contestant Tom Nitti for a performance of Cody Johnson's "'Til You Can't." His departure from the show was an emotional moment for the coaches, too.
Tributes Pour In After The Voice Star Dylan Carter's Death
The Local Voice, an organization Carter co-founded that uses music and provides care for S.C. residents fighting breast cancer, announced his death in a social media statement.
"Dylan was the heart of what we do," the statement reads. "He believed every voice matters and lived that every day."
"We are heartbroken, but find comfort in knowing he is in heaven with his mother," it continues. "We are so grateful for Dylan, for the love he gave this community, and for the impact he leaves behind. We will carry his light forward and continue this mission in his honor."
In a Facebook post, Moncks Corner Mayor Thomas Hamilton, Jr. remembered Carter as a "gifted singer" and a cherished community member.
"His kindness and charm earned him immense respect, and his absence will be deeply felt," Hamilton wrote. "To the loved ones and acquaintances of Dylan, we offer our sincerest condolences during this difficult period."
Carter was scheduled to play a show in Moncks Corner on Monday (April 27.)
