Reba McEntire has broken her silence after the death of Brandon Blackstock, her stepson.

The country music superstar shared a touching message to her various social media platforms on Tuesday (Aug. 12).

  • Brandon Blackstock died on Thursday (Aug. 7) after a 3-year cancer battle.
  • He was the father of Kelly Clarkson's two kids, River and Remington, as well as two adult children from a previous marriage.
  • A coroner confirmed the case of death as natural causes resulting from cancer.

What Did Reba McEntire Say About Brandon Blackstock?

"Last week, my stepson/oldest son Brandon Blackstock went home to be with God," McEntire writes in an emotional post that includes several photos with Blackstock through the years.

"His struggle is over and he is in eternal peace in God’s presence," she continues. "There is no one else like him, and I’m thankful for the time we had together. His legacy and laughter will be carried on through his family. Rest in peace cowboy. Happy trails to you til we meet again."

Blackstock had been battling melanoma.

McEntire also responded to her son Shelby's public statement about his brother on Monday (Aug. 11). In that note, Shelby remembered his older half-brother as "an irreplaceable part of our family — funny, bright, and full of life — and he will be deeply missed."

"Very well said Shelby. Yes we will miss him so much," the singer and Happy's Place star wrote in the comments section of her son's post, with several emojis.

Is Brandon Blackstock Reba McEntire's Son?

Brandon Blackstock was Reba McEntire's stepson, not her biological son. She says she loved and treated him like family during her marriage to Narvel Blackstock.

The talent manager's birth mother is Narvel Blackstock's first wife, Elisa Gilbert. Hollywood Life shares that the couple was married from 1973 to 1988.

The former music manager didn't remarry after Clarkson, but his obituary notes his "loving partner in life and business," Brittney Marie Jones.
