Maren Morris is officially making her Sheriff Country debut — and she’s bringing new music with her.

The Grammy winner will guest star in Friday night’s (May 15) episode of the CBS drama, marking her latest move outside the traditional country music lane as she continues exploring new creative projects.

And according to Morris, the experience turned out to be emotional in more ways than one.

Original Song for the Episode

In addition to appearing on Sheriff Country, Morris also wrote an original song called “Parachute” that will be featured during the episode.

“Writing ‘Parachute’ was a really cathartic experience for me,” Morris tells Taste of Country. “Tapping into the forgiveness of one’s self is such an underrated emotion written about.”

The singer added that hearing the song connected to a project she was personally part of made the experience even more meaningful.

“The fact that it will soundtrack the episode I’m acting in is even more emotional,” she shared. “I had the best day on set and can’t wait to see this titular episode of a stellar first season of Sheriff Country.

Maren's Role in the Show

The episode, titled “Compromised,” follows Sheriff Mickey Fox as she helps with a federal investigation involving alleged interstate crime and local land deals.

For Morris, the role comes during a period of major transition in her career. Earlier this year, she released Dreamsicle, her first major project since stepping away from country radio and reshaping her sound and artistic direction.

Now, it looks like acting may be becoming part of that next chapter, too.

Country Artists Who Have Tried Acting

It's not uncommon for country artists to want to expand their entertainment footprint and for many that comes in the form of acting. While many singers has stepped out of their comfort zone to take on an acting role, there are some who were quite good at it.

In fact, there are a handful of country crooners whose names are just as respected in Hollywood as they are in Nashville.

Here's a list of country singers who have tried their hand at acting.
