The Special Meaning Behind Lainey Wilson’s Father-Daughter Dance Song
Lainey Wilson was tugging at everyone's heartstrings when she selected "Butterfly Kisses" for the father-daughter dance at her wedding with her dad, Brian Wilson.
Why Did Lainey Wilson Choose "Butterfly Kisses" For Her Wedding's Father-Daughter Dance?
Let's be honest for a second: "Butterfly Kisses" — which was originally a hit for Bob Carlisle, and covered by country artist Jeff Carson — is not an uncommon song to choose for a father-daughter dance. The song is the perfect "daddy's little girl" soundtrack with lyrics that speak to the joys of being a girl dad.
There are even poignant wedding references.
"She'll change her name today / She'll make a promise and I'll give her away / Standing in the bride room just staring at her," one line reads.
But the grab-a-tissue lyrics aren't the only reason why "Butterfly Kisses" is special to Wilson and her dad. It's also the song she sang at her Kindergarten graduation in 1998. Using it for such a special moment with her father at her wedding brought everything full circle.
"I sang Butterfly Kisses at my Kindergarten graduation so of course it had to be my father daughter dance at the wedding," she writes on social media alongside a video from her wedding.
Lainey Wilson Is a Daddy's Girl Through and Through
While Wilson has a close relationship with both of her parents, she wrote a special song for her father called "Those Boots (Deddy's Song)." The country hitmaker called her dad "deddy" and the song speaks to the bond the two of them share.
Having your father at your wedding is meaningful to any bride and groom, but it was extra special for Wilson who almost lost her dad in 2022. Brian spent two months in the hospital that year with a fungal infection that took our the left side of his face, including his eye.
"They had to remove his eye and they had to remove some bones in his face," she told Taste of Country at the time. "He had a stroke on top of all of that. He had nine surgeries in a month and a half. He's not supposed to be here."
