A Last-Minute Problem Kept This Yacht Rock Cover Off Keith Urban’s ‘Flow State’ Album [EXCLUSIVE]
Keith Urban is gearing up for a record release unlike any he's mounted before: An album full of yacht rock cover songs called Flow State which drops on Friday (June 12.)
There will be 10 familiar covers on the new album and one new original from Urban. But the number of cover songs was actually supposed to be 11.
Urban reveals that one of those tracks had to be scrapped, and the reason why is pretty surprising.
Why Did Keith Urban Pull One Track Off His Flow State Album at the Last Minute?
I had an exclusive chat with Urban on Taste of Country Nights and asked him if there were any leftover yacht rock covers that he had recorded for Flow State that might be a part of another upcoming project.

"There's only one song that we cut that isn't on the record because it's a duet," the singer reveals, "and I didn't find the right duet partner in time for the record to come out. So that's sitting around waiting."
I tried prying and asking which song it was that was recorded, but it was to no avail.
One reason that the duet partner wasn't secured in time might have something to do with the fact that halfway through recording yacht rock songs in his new Nashville studio, he had to go out on his High and Alive World Tour.
Another reason is that Flow State came together pretty naturally, without a whole lot of advance planning on Urban's part. He initially just recorded yacht rock covers for fun, to break in his new Nashville studio, and it wasn't until later that the idea to release an album shaped up.
Why Did Keith Urban Make Flow State, an Album of Yacht Rock Covers?
Basically, Urban was following his muse without too much of an idea of how the project was going to shape up.
"I didn't think there was anything serious about the record," he reflects. "We had a blast in the studio, I've never seen session players beaming so much playing songs like my session players were on the floor in the studio, it was incredible."

Will There Be a Keith Urban Flow State Part 2?
That's a question I asked Urban because I was wondering what would happen to the one already recorded song that didn't make the record in time.
The "Wasted Time" singer said "I never thought there would be a part one, so you're asking the wrong guy."
