Police Say Riley Strain Had 12 to 15 Drinks Before He Died
Police say Riley Strain began drinking on the bus ride from Missouri to Nashville and never really took a break.
In the end, he had 12 to 15 alcoholic beverages before he left Luke’s 32 Bridge on Broadway and walked toward the Cumberland River instead of his hotel.
- Strain's body was found downstream on March 22.
- His cause of death was drowning and ethanol intoxication.
- His blood alcohol level was .228.
WSMV-TV in Nashville shared a timeline of Strain and his fraternity brothers’ actions on March 8. They arrived at about 4:30PM, and within 30 minutes he was seen sipping a margarita at Miranda Lambert’s Casa Rosa.

Police say his Delta Chi fraternity brothers said Strain had at least five drinks on the bus, including two shots of vodka and three IPA-style beers. The bus driver did his best to enforce a no alcohol on the bus rule, they add.

TABC (Tennessee Alcohol Beverage Commission) said there was no sign the 22-year-old University of Missouri student was intoxicated when he was served at several downtown Nashville bars. However, by 9PM he’d begun to stumble.
His dustup with staff at Luke’s 32 Bridge took place about one hour later. A fraternity brother told the cops that he talked to Strain on the phone at 9:47. Through slurred speech, Strain said he was going back to the hotel.
Strain's family is still weighing all legal options. They also ordered a second autopsy, although it's not clear if the results will be made public.
