Texas country music icon Aaron Watson has been through the ringer and back when it comes to his vocal cords.

The singer was a guest on Taste of Country Nights where he exclusively detailed the harrowing double vocal cord surgery that he had to have not too long ago.

"Man, the last four years I've had two vocal chord surgeries and it kinda made me push the pause button multiple times," he admitted.

What Does a Vocal Cord Surgery Entail?

The procedure, also known as vocal fold surgery, is done to treat problems affecting the voice. Those can include nodules, polyps, cysts, hemorrhages or sometimes even early tumors.

According to Healthline, it's a minimally invasive procedure where a surgeon inserts a rigid tube through the mouth to view the vocal cords. Then, they take tiny instruments or laser tools to treat tissue that is affected.

Yes, you are knocked out with anesthesia for this process, so at least you have that going for you.

How is Aaron Watson Doing After Double Vocal Cord Surgeries?

I can tell you that Watson was in great spirits. He said "Coming out of that I'm doing great now, I have a new-found appreciation for my career, for the fans...life is short."

What's Next for Aaron Watson?

Now that Watson and his voice are back at full steam, the singer says "I'm gonna be all up in country music's kitchen for the next five years."

Watson tells me that even though he just dropped his 20th studio album, Horse Named Texas, on March 6, he already has his next record finished and ready to go when the time comes.

He says "Horse Named Texas is Chapter One of the next era for him. Watson tells me, "It's day one of the next five years, the five year plan. The house is paid off and the kids are grown, I'm about to go for broke."
