You might want to make plans to drop by your local 7-Eleven sooner than later to get your Slurpee fix on.

7-Eleven just announced that they plan on closing a whopping 444 locations in America, quickly.

7-Eleven stores across America are not billing what they used to. In fact, for the past year and a half, sales have sharply declined due to a few factors.

One of those factors is cigarettes. 7-Eleven says that their cigarette sales that once pushed their revenue over the top are nowhere near what they used to be.

That seems to check out with stats about smoking being on the decline in America for decades, and accelerating even faster in recent years, due to the popularity of vaping.

While closing 444 all at once seems like an astounding figure, there are currently 13,000 7-Eleven convenience stores in North America, so closing 444 of them isn’t a debilitating percentage.

These closures come on the heels of one heck of a year for retail stores in America.

With CVS and Walgreens both closing many locations across America, along with countless restaurant chains that have had to shut some doors, inflation seems to be getting the best of a lot of companies.

The locations of the 444 stores that will cease to exist were not revealed in their earnings call, and so far there's no word if future displaced employees will get other opportunities within the company.

Let’s hope these closures won’t affect 7-Eleven’s most famous marketing campaign of free Slurpee day on 7/11.
